Are the tours suitable for beginners?
Yes. The snowmobile and ice fishing tours suit both first-timers and experienced participants. The route and pace are always adjusted to the group's experience.
Can I bring my own snowmobile?
Yes, you're welcome to join a snowmobile tour on your own machine. Just mention this in your request.
What languages are the tours guided in?
Tours are guided in English and/or Finnish, unless otherwise agreed.
Do you offer tours for individuals, groups and companies?
Yes, all three. Tell me your group size in your request and I'll suggest a suitable package.
When is the best time to see the northern lights?
The northern lights can appear on dark, clear nights from autumn through spring. I can't guarantee sightings, as they depend on solar activity and the weather.
Can I cancel my booking?
Yes. Cancellation is free if made more than 7 days before the tour starts. See the booking terms for the full details.
Which areas do you operate in?
Mainly the Käsivarsi wilderness around Kilpisjärvi in Enontekiö and the Sevettijärvi–Näätämö area in northern Inari. Ask about the fells of Utsjoki, Finland's northernmost municipality, too.
How do I book a tour?
The easiest way is the form on the contact page. Tell me the tour, dates and group size, and I'll send you a quote.
Where do we meet?
The meeting point is agreed flexibly depending on the tour and route, for example near your accommodation or at the trailhead. Sled transport departs from Kilpisjärvi, Sevettijärvi and Näätämö.
How do I get to Kilpisjärvi?
Kilpisjärvi lies at the end of highway 21 (E8), about 430 km from Rovaniemi. The nearest airports are Tromsø in Norway (about 170 km) and Kittilä (about 280 km). A bus runs from Rovaniemi to Kilpisjärvi, and the nearest train stations are Kolari and Rovaniemi.
How do I get to Sevettijärvi?
The nearest airport is Ivalo, about two hours' drive from Sevettijärvi. A bus also runs from Ivalo a few days a week – check current timetables with Matkahuolto, the Finnish bus company.
Can I ride a snowmobile to Halti?
Only with a partner company approved by Metsähallitus (the Finnish state agency that manages the wilderness areas), as the route to Halti is closed to independent riders. Arctic Aurora Productions is an approved partner – read more on the Wilderness trips page.
Who can drive a snowmobile?
Drivers must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving licence. Under-18s can join as passengers with a guardian.
What if the weather is bad or the ice isn't safe?
Safety always comes before the schedule. If conditions are not safe, I reschedule, change the route or cancel the trip. If I cancel due to weather or conditions, you get a new date or a full refund.
Can I pay with my sports and culture benefit?
Finnish residents can pay with ePassi or Edenred sports and culture benefits. I'll tell you in my quote which trips the benefit covers.
Will I stay warm?
I send clothing instructions before the trip. Layering is key: a warm base layer, an insulating mid layer and a windproof outer layer, plus warm boots, mittens and a hat. A helmet and helmet liner are included in snowmobile trips. Warm clothing is not included, but I can help you rent a set if you don't have your own.
Is there a toilet on the tours?
On overnight trips, the camp has a portable toilet in its own tent, with a sealed tank. When needed, I bring it along on other tours too, such as a full-day ice fishing trip – so there's no need to find a spot in the snow, and nothing is left behind in the wilderness.
Are you insured?
Yes, our operations are covered by valid liability insurance. We still recommend that you have your own travel or accident insurance, as our liability insurance does not replace it.
